Prolift Service Division
Our Team

We inspect every category of lifting equipment, including chain slings, wire ropes, shackles, clamps, lifting points, jacks, manual and electric hoists, gantry systems, cranes, MEWPs, forklift attachments and material-handling equipment. Each item is checked against the relevant standards and legislation, with clear pass, fail or missing status so you always know the condition of your equipment. During visits, our engineers also offer practical advice on safe use, storage, future maintenance needs and options for replacing equipment that is approaching end of life.
Beyond inspections, Prolift provide a full range of on-site repairs, adjustments and component replacements to restore equipment to a safe working condition. Where repairs are not feasible, our sales and service teams work together to recommend suitable alternatives that meet both operational and budget requirements.
We also carry out load testing on a wide variety of structures and equipment, including plant machinery, fabricated lifting beams, spreader frames and fixed lifting points. Using calibrated equipment and certified proof-load systems, we ensure that each piece of lifting gear is tested to the correct capacity and supplied with a valid GA1 certificate.
With our combination of nationwide coverage, experienced engineers and digital reporting tools, Prolift offer a complete, one-stop solution for inspection, testing and repair of lifting equipment—helping your business stay safe, compliant and operational all year round.

Why Regular Lifting Equipment Inspections Matter
Lifting operations remain one of the highest-risk activities on any site. A single failure can lead to serious injury, fatality, damage to plant and long periods of downtime. Irish legislation requires duty holders to ensure that lifting equipment, accessories and height safety systems are thoroughly examined at prescribed intervals by a competent person and that records are kept for a minimum of five years.
Our service engineers carry out detailed visual and functional examinations focusing on safety-critical components. The aim is not only to report defects, but to confirm whether an item is fit for continued use, highlight deterioration at an early stage and recommend the right corrective actions – repair, replacement or additional testing.
Where an item fails a thorough examination, Prolift can repair on-site, carry out proof load tests or supply a replacement. Our goal is simple: equipment left on your site at the end of the visit is either safe to use or clearly identified and quarantined.
Typical Examination Intervals
Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations, certain categories of lifting equipment and accessories must be thoroughly examined at set intervals by a competent person. The table below provides a general guide – specific requirements may vary depending on how the equipment is used.
| Description of lifting equipment / accessory | Typical examination interval |
|---|---|
| Lifting accessories: chain & chain components, lifting points, web slings, shackles, clamps, swivels, spreader beams & spreader frames and all below-the-hook items | 6 months |
| Height safety systems: lifelines, safety barriers & suspended access equipment | 6 months |
| Height safety PPE: harnesses, lanyards, inertia reels, man-riding anchor points | 6 months |
| Mast-climbing work platforms | 6 months |
| MEWPs and scissor lifts used for lifting persons | 6 months |
| Passenger lifts and goods lifts that carry people | 6 months |
| Electric, pneumatic & manual hoists, gantry cranes, jib cranes & lift tables | 12 months |
| Supporting steelwork & structures that carry lifting equipment, including runways & tracks | 12 months |
| Tower cranes, mobile cranes & dock cranes | 12 months (6 months if used to lift persons) |
| Forklift trucks & telehandlers, including interchangeable lifting accessories | 12 months (6 months if used to lift persons) |
| Goods lifts & tail-lift type goods platforms (not carrying people) | 12 months |
Note: This is a general guide only. We will review your equipment, usage and duty-holder responsibilities to confirm the correct inspection regime for your site.
Our Service Offering
Lifting Equipment Inspections
We carry out thorough examinations on all lifting equipment and accessories, in line with current Irish regulations and relevant standards. From chain slings, hoists and jacks to cranes, MEWPs and height safety systems, each item is checked for wear, damage, correct marking and safe function. Our engineers record every asset and issue detailed reports with clear pass, fail and missing status.
On-Site Asset Management
Managing hundreds or thousands of lifting assets across multiple sites can be challenging. We build and maintain a digital asset register for your business, including asset ID, location, category, last inspection date and next due date. This ensures nothing is missed and gives you full visibility of compliance status across your sites.
Testing & Repairs
When issues are found, our team can carry out on-site repairs, proof load tests and adjustments to restore equipment to a safe condition. Where repair is not economical or appropriate, we can advise on suitable replacement equipment from our sales division and arrange installation and certification.
24/7 Emergency Breakdown Support
Unexpected breakdowns put pressure on production and project deadlines. Our emergency breakdown service for lifting equipment operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A Prolift engineer will attend site, diagnose the fault and work to return the equipment to service safely, or advise on temporary alternatives where required.
Thorough Examination Reports & GA1 Certificates
Following each examination, our competent person issues a formal report of thorough examination and GA1 certificate where applicable. Reports include asset details, findings, defects, recommendations and the date of next examination. All documentation is stored online for easy access during audits or inspections.
